US network LinkedIn still hopes to come back to Russia in future
MOSCOW, Mar 9 (PRIME) -- U.S. professional social network LinkedIn hopes in the future to resume its activities in Russia, where it was blocked in November 2016 for disobeying to store personal data of Russians on the country’s territory under the law, a spokesperson for the company said late on Tuesday.
“Although we believe that we respect the Russian law and despite talks with the communications service, including a meeting in Moscow in December 2016, we failed to reach an agreement to lift the blocking,” the spokesperson said.
“LinkedIn will remain being available in Russian, and we hope we’ll succeed in resuming the provision of services in the Russian Federation in the future.”
The Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media said earlier that LinkedIn had notified the authority of being unready to mend law violations to come back to the country.
LinkedIn’s refusal to keep bases with personal data of Russians on the country’s territory confirms the lack of the company’s interest to work on the local market, as the law obliges Internet companies to do, the watchdog said then.
The authority added LinkedIn to the register of forbidden information on November 17, 2016 and asked connection operators to block it, the first case of muting one of the biggest social networks in the country.
